Stormy Summer Engagement Session in Southern Indiana | Slade & Taylor
Some sessions go exactly as planned.
This wasn’t one of them.
And honestly, I’m so glad.
When I met up with Slade and Taylor, the sky was already starting to change. The clouds kept getting darker, the wind picked up, and it was obvious a storm was rolling in. Most people would probably panic or ask to reschedule, but instead we kept going—and it ended up creating one of my favorite engagement sessions.
The clouds were unreal. They made everything feel dramatic in the best way, and somehow the storm made these two slow down even more and just enjoy being together.
The best part about photographing couples like Slade and Taylor is that they don’t need much direction. They laughed constantly, held onto each other, and weren’t worried about getting a little dirty or changing plans if it meant creating something different.
By the end of the session, there was no point trying to stay dry anymore.
So we didn’t.
They climbed into the water fully dressed, completely embraced the moment, and somehow the rain made everything even better. Those last images are the kind that remind me why I love photographing couples. They’re imperfect in all the right ways and feel exactly like a memory instead of just another pose.
If you’re planning your own engagement session, don’t let the weather scare you. Some of the most memorable photos happen when everything doesn’t go exactly according to plan. A cloudy sky, a little rain, muddy shoes, and a willingness to trust the process can create images that feel completely unique to your story.
Slade and Taylor, thank you for trusting me, embracing every unexpected moment, and making this one I’ll remember for a long time. I seriously can’t wait for your wedding.
