Tre & Kayla: Downtown Newburgh Engagement

I’ll be honest—when I woke up to cloudy skies on the day of Tre and Kayla’s downtown Newburgh engagement session, my heart sank a little. If you know me, you know I’m a complete sucker for golden hour sunshine. But sometimes the best sessions happen when plans change.

Tre and Kayla traveled all the way from Texas to visit family over the holidays, squeezing in their engagement session while they were in town. With their wedding coming up right here in Newburgh, it felt perfect to capture them in the place where they’ll soon say “I do.”

We wandered through downtown Newburgh, and I’ve got to say—there’s something about overcast days that creates this soft, even light that ended up being absolutely perfect for them. No squinting, no harsh shadows, just these two being completely themselves.

What made this session stand out wasn’t fancy poses or perfect lighting—it was how these two just clicked in front of the camera (no pun intended). There’s nothing better than working with couples who are down for whatever and completely comfortable being themselves. I didn’t have to manufacture moments between them; I just had to be ready to capture what naturally happened.

That’s honestly my favorite part of this job—creating an atmosphere where people can just enjoy being together while I document it. I’m not about forcing those stiff, awkward poses. The real magic happens in the in-between moments: the whispered jokes, the genuine laughs, the way someone looks at their person when they think no one’s watching.
